Day 1 – Welcome to Kathmandu

We land in Kathmandu, and as soon as we cross the airport threshold, we feel that the journey has truly begun. A local collaborator welcomes us and accompanies us to the Tolkji Guest House, in the vibrant heart of the Tibetan quarter of Boudhanath, just a few steps from the great Stupa. Here, time seems to slow down, while colors, smiles, and scents invite us to let go of the rush and open ourselves to the experience.

As the sun begins to set, we immerse ourselves in the spirituality of Boudhanath. We walk slowly around the Stupa with Tibetan monks and pilgrims, following the silent flow of prayer. The sound of bells, the mantras vibrating in the air, and the spinning prayer wheels create a suspended, intense atmosphere, capable of touching us deeply. It is a moment not to be forgotten: our first true contact with the soul of Nepal.

We conclude the day with a Welcome Dinner in a small restaurant overlooking the Stupa. Sitting together, as the lights come on and prayers continue to circle around us, we share flavors, emotions, and the awareness that this journey has already begun to transform us.

Legend has it that an elderly, very devout Buddhist woman asked the King for a small piece of land to build a temple. The King, somewhat perplexed, granted her a space the size of a wool sweater. The woman then unraveled the sweater and used the thread to draw a perimeter much larger than expected. On that land, the majestic Stupa was built, which today is the most important Buddhist cultural center, a UNESCO World Heritage site, around which over fifty monasteries have been constructed. Here we can feel the strength of this simple and powerful faith.

Day 2 – Spirituality and Tradition

The day begins early, when Kathmandu is still enveloped in a subtle quiet. At 7:30 AM, we gather for a Pranayama session: a conscious breathing practice designed to awaken the body, clear the mind, and prepare with presence for the day’s experiences.

All Pranayama practices during the trip are optional, but we highly recommend them to delve deeper into the rhythm of the journey and gain maximum benefit.

The encounter with the Gokarna School is not just a visit: it is a moment of authentic presence. Amidst shy smiles, curious glances, and intertwined hands, a space of shared humanity is created that transcends words and cultural differences.

An opportunity to explore the flavors of Kathmandu independently or simply take a break, allowing the knowledge and sensations of the morning to settle in.

Nepal’s most sacred Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva. Here, life and death meet on the banks of the Bagmati River, in a powerful and deeply symbolic place. We observe in silence, respecting the rituals, as we understand how intertwined the sacred is with the daily life of this country.

We witness one of the most intense moments of the day: the fire dance, the Arati. The flames move to the rhythm of the mantras, creating a hypnotic atmosphere charged with devotion, which involves and deeply touches us.

Legend has it that in the upper part, Shiva, in the guise of a deer, loved to graze. Until a few years ago, alchemists and gurus lived in this area, immersed among dozens of small temples. Here, silence tastes of peace. We witness one of the most intense moments of the day: the fire dance, the Arati. The flames move to the rhythm of the mantra, creating a hypnotic atmosphere charged with devotion, which involves and deeply touches us.

We return to the Guest house for an included dinner, sharing the day’s emotions and letting ourselves be enveloped by the awareness of having lived another authentic experience, capable of nourishing body, mind, and spirit.

Day 3 – Sacred Temples and Tibetan Vibrations

An opportunity to breathe deeply and feel the energy of the mountains around us. A moment to center ourselves and perceive the rhythm of the village, letting the fresh, pure air of the hills become part of our journey.

After our initial encounters, we return to the Gokarna School with fresh eyes and open hearts. Each visit becomes a moment of deep connection: we walk through the corridors, share smiles, listen to stories, and participate in the daily lives of the children. It is not just a gesture of support, but a true meeting of souls.

An opportunity to savor local cuisine or simply observe the life that animates this extraordinary city, letting ourselves be inspired by its authentic beauty.

In the afternoon, we reach Swayambhunath, one of the oldest and most evocative sacred sites in the Kathmandu Valley. From the hill where the Stupa stands, the view opens up to the city, while amidst prayer flags, Buddhist symbols, and the curious monkeys that inhabit the temple, we breathe an atmosphere rich in history, spirituality, and vitality.

As evening falls, we participate in a Tibetan Singing Bowl concert, a profound and enveloping sound experience. The vibrations of the sounds accompany a moment of listening and relaxation, promoting a natural energetic rebalancing and a state of inner calm.

We have dinner in the lively Thamel district, the beating heart of Kathmandu. Amidst lights, voices, and aromas, we share dinner in an informal and convivial atmosphere, letting ourselves be drawn into the city’s energy and taking the opportunity to buy some souvenirs.

For those who wish, an optional evening walk to Durbar Square is possible. Walking among temples and historic palaces illuminated by the soft evening light offers an intimate and evocative glimpse into one of Kathmandu’s most emblematic places, before returning for rest.

Day 4 – Volunteering and Newari Culture

We will return, bringing with us the memory of shared smiles and moments.

Patan, the ancient royal city south of Kathmandu. We will visit Durbar Square, with its temples, courtyards, and a beautiful museum that tells the story of Nepal’s sacred art. Patan is also full of artisan workshops, perfect for buying products made by the local community, both contributing to their support and taking home something authentically Nepalese, for yourself and to share with loved ones.

Day 5 – Meditation and Devotion

A moment to breathe deeply the fresh air of the hills and feel connected to the natural rhythm of the village. All practices are optional, but they offer a special way to start the day with calm and presence.

Our penultimate day at Gokarna School, a special moment to fully experience the connection forged in the previous days. We walk through the corridors, share smiles, joy, and small acts of kindness, observing the children’s progress and the teachers’ dedication. This encounter is not just a visit, but participation: a gesture of conscious presence that enriches both giver and receiver. It is an opportunity to reflect on how solidarity and humanity can transform an experience into an indelible memory in the heart.

Budhanilkantha is an important sacred Hindu site located near Kathmandu.

It is famous for its large statue of the god Vishnu reclining on the cosmic serpent Ananta, a symbol of creation and the balance of the universe. It is a highly revered site, especially by followers of Vaishnavism.

Afterward, we will immerse ourselves with the Hare Krishnas, the common name for the ISKCON religious movement, a branch of Vaishnavism. Devotees worship Krishna as the supreme form of God and practice devotion through chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, meditation, a simple spiritual life, and devotional service.

The journey will take approximately 90 minutes towards Nagarkot, a small village at 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) altitude. From here, one of the most evocative panoramic views of the Himalayan massif unfolds. If the sky is clear, we may glimpse the snow-capped peaks, including Annapurna and, in the distance, even Everest.

We arrive at the Himalayan terrace, where an overnight stay and included dinner await us, a moment of relaxation and sharing under the silent sky of this authentic corner of Nepal.

Day 7 – Excursion to Changu Narayan

A moment to breathe deeply the fresh air of the hills and feel connected to the natural rhythm of the village. All practices are optional, but they offer a special way to start the day with calm and presence.

Sharing a glance, a smile, and sometimes even Chai and typical snacks offered spontaneously with the inhabitants of these small villages will be a profound and unforgettable experience. The destination is Changu Narayan, an ancient village that houses one of Nepal’s oldest Hindu temples, dedicated to Vishnu, also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Irma Romagnoli Foundation was born from an act of love.

The love that Irma Romagnoli felt for all defenseless beings.

The love that drove her to devote herself passionately to caring for those who asked for her help, thanks to the discovery of an innate energy that made her a respected pranotherapist, recommended even by medical specialists.

The Irma Romagnoli Foundation was established in accordance with her last wishes. Irma, who used to say “I ask for nothing and refuse nothing”, left all her assets to the Foundation so that it could continue, in her name, to care for the defenceless, especially children in need and their families, and to support research into traditional medicine.
